In 1860, David Davenport came to this area from Minnesota with his family and started a flour mill on Cemetery Road (now Northwest 3rd Street). This mill became one of the largest flour mills in Iowa and its products were used by many businesses such as Journeys Clothing Company, Dodge Brothers Brewery, Western Pacific Railroad and much more during that time period. In 1870, John Atherton moved to this area from Illinois with his family and started a stagecoach line service between Amesbury (west central Iowa) and west Des Moines via Sioux City (later South Dakota)). This company provided transportation for goods along the Missouri River Valley for passengers earning money on their journey. Today's Amtrak provides similar services between east Chicago (IL)and Sioux City destinations including Omaha (NE)and Minneapolis/St Paul(MN). A new courthouse was built in 1901 located at Seventh Street NE & Washington Avenue NW which served as an important judicial center during that time period due to its location close to state Capitol building where justices could hear cases directly without going through circuit court or long process- these days it still serves as a courthouse but offers office space for local government organizations such as law enforcement agencies etc.. In 1907 President William McKinley made westernDes Moines his summer home while he campaigned across America before being elected president that year; however he never lived here permanently like some have suggested he might have done had he won re-election that fall thanks largely toDES MOINES FALLS PROTECTION COOPERATIVE INC.-a group led by civic leader Charles Ewing which lobbied hard against McKinley's policies within DES MOINES
