At that time Cedar Rapids was still part of Keokuk County while Amesbury Township was part of Polk County.. During World War II many American factories were built in or near West Des Moines including those manufacturing aircraft parts at Wernher Aircraft Corporation's plant off I-280 north/west of town; this also produced munitions such as artillery rounds used by Germany during World War II Thanks To Our Allies!
