By 10,000 BP, these humans had replaced the use of a single leg with a bipedal stance. In 1868, A.J. Peake and his brother John journeyed from England to western Iowa in search of new land for their United States cattle ranching venture. They found a region that they thought would be ideal for their enterprise: the eastern edge of what is now Iowa was then open prairies that offered good grazing land and abundant water resources. After some hunting and exploring, they arrived at an artificial hillock on their property which became known as Peake Hill. Here they erected a wooden cabin which served as their headquarters during their explorations and survey work in the area. Over time, both A.J. Peake and his brother developed successful ranches in western Iowa while also developing relationships with other landowners in the area including General George Crook who supplied them with horses and men to help carry out surveys and manage their properties. In 1885, Crook commissioned Jens Jensen - one of Denmark's most eminent landscape architects - to design a new town square in downtown Des Moines called Park Square after himself and his wife Princess Louise of Battenberg (1863-1937), daughter of King Edward VIII (1902-1936). Jensen's plan included an elaborate fountain pond facing east across State Street from what is now Central Library; several large buildings surrounding it including City Hall; six small blocks off State Street near First National Bank; three blocks east off University Avenue near Drake University; four blocks south on Market Street near Pultney & Co.; Finally, there was a series of small gardens featuring fountains and sculpture around Park Square complex.]

West Des Moines, Iowa is a city in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 61,812 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Polk County. It is part of the Des Moines metropolitan statistical area. The first permanent settlers in what would become West Des Moines were three men from New York City who arrived on a ship called "The Cumberland" in 1846. They founded a small community known as Cedar Rapids on the banks of the Mississippi River, about south of present-day West Des Moines. Cedar Rapids was abandoned after only six months and most of its inhabitants moved to nearby Ankeny where they founded another small town also named Cedar Rapids. In 1854, John Atherton purchased 4 acres (1 km²) near what is now downtown West Des Moines from David Dudley for $600. He began building a windmill that became one of the earliest symbols of West Des Moines and its role as an agricultural center during the 19th century: it was built in 1855 and still functioned commercially until 1905 when it was replaced by a more modern structure. Atherton donated land for what would become Prairie View A&M University in 1909 and construction began soon afterward on one of America's largest educational institutions – 50 miles (80 km) long by 10 miles (16 km) wide with over 100 buildings – then considered world-renowned at that time. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson designated Prairie View A&M University as one of five national universities he proposed be created under his New Deal program; Prairie View completed construction within two years and opened its doors to students in November 1930. During World War II, much activity took place at Prairie View including production by Perry Como's RCA Victor Records company which manufactured military radios used by U S forces; during this time many B-29 pilots were trained here at PVMU while flying missions over Japanornet airfields located adjacent to campus; moreover, research and development activities conducted at PVMU led to technological advances not only for weapons manufacturers but also for medical devices such as pacemakers which are still used today!

However, World War II changed all that – after Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9150 calling for American citizens to contribute $2 million (less than one percent of total national war spending) to help fund war efforts in Europe, businesses throughout Iowa began building factories essential to wartime production such as aircraft manufacturing plants and shipyards. This influx of workers not only created new jobs but also led to West Des Moines becoming one of the most densely populated cities in America; today it has more people living within its borders than any other American city except New York City proper. The postwar years were difficult for many Americans due to economic recession and increased competition from overseas manufacturers; however, West Des Moines bounced back with strong job growth followed by stabilization during the late 1990s through 2000s when crime rates began increasing again due in part to drugs being smuggled into town from Mexico
West Des Moines, Iowa was founded on October 12, 1856 by two brothers, Charles and Jesse West. The city is located in the northeast corner of Iowa and it is named after the Des Moines River. The city was originally built as a railroad town and it became a center for agricultural production. In 1907, the city experienced an economic recession due to the Panic of 1907. However, in 1912, West Des Moines became a leading center for education when it opened its first high school. The city also hosted the 1934 Republican National Convention which helped boost president Franklin D. Roosevelt's reelection campaign
