West Des Moines, Iowa is a small city located in the eastern part of the state of Iowa. The population was 507 at the 2000 census, and 528 as of 2010. It is bordered by Cedar Rapids to the north, Dubuque to the east, and Ames to the south. West Des Moines is one of two cities in Iowa that make up Polk County. After hostilities ended in 1918, the Air Forces turned its attention toarming local civilians with food supplies while continueŽing military operations across Midwest battlefields until 1921 when it transitioned into civilian hands once again under Operation Open Door (the war's end). In 1951, West Des Moines became an official suburb of Cedar Rapids due to declining population densities within Polk County itself resulting in limited internal growth throughout much of those years; however suburban development resumed following a statewide moratorium placed on suburban sprawl following Reaganomics-driven urban planning reforms which began appearing throughout America during this time period characterized as “desertification” policies that promoted sprawling suburbs as economic assets as opposed to traditional farmland or rural communities deep inside Once upon a Time America™
