Waukee is a town in Iowa, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Waukee is part of the Cedar Rapids–Des Moines–West Des Moines metropolitan area. The first gun case history in Waukee started in 1892 when J.C. Nichols and his brother-in-law George Hardin began selling firearms to farmers and others in the town. In 1896, the city of Cedar Rapids incorporated, which led to more business opportunities for Hardin and Nichols. Waukee is a small town located in the Waukee County, Iowa, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Waukee was James Aiken who arrived in 1828. He and his family moved to this area from Illinois and built a cabin on the current site of the town in 1830. Aiken served as mayor of Waukee for one year from 1832 to 1834. In 1836, John Jonson acquired title to a tract of land that included present-day Waukee. Jonson named his new settlement "Waukee" after his adopted father, Welsh immigrant John Owen Jonson (1784-1851). In 1840, school superintendent Ebenezer Burr purchased land adjacent to what became Waukee from Isaac Brockman for $1,000 cash. The first public school opened in Waukee on October 7, 1840. During World War I, many farm families joined the military and took up arms against Germany or Austria-Hungary because they were required to do so by law; these men and women left behind significant amounts of food storage and equipment behind when they returned home. Many farms continued operations during wartime as usual but some were destroyed by enemy action or natural disasters such as floods that swept through central Iowa during 1916–1917; however, most farmers rebuilt their businesses within six months following those events. In 1923, Methodist Episcopal Church began construction on a church building at Fourth Street and Center Avenue which would eventually become known as Stroudsburg Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (now First Baptist Church). On July 1st 1930 all north side streets east of Center were renamed Main Street between 4th Street and 6th street due to lack of another name available for that section of town at that time The post office changed its name back to "Waukee" on December 1st 1935

Waukee was founded in 1847 by a group of farmers from the town of Waterloo, Iowa. The town grew rapidly after it was established and in 1853, Waukee had a population of 2,500. In 1907, Waukee became the county seat for Winnebago County.
