Waukee is an unincorporated community in Waukee County, Iowa, United States. The population was 282 at the 2000 census. It is located on U.S. Highway 24 east of Waterloo. The first settler in what is now Waukee was James Kapp who arrived in 1857. He and his family cornerstone the first house there on a piece of land that he and his wife donated to the town site in 1861. A post office called Waukee was established in 1865, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. Waukee had a school foraged children started by Mrs. John Gorman in 1881. After she died, the school continued operated with help from Mrs. Henson until it closed its doors in 1916 due to lack of money and enrollment growth over time . In 1922, Waukee became a city when Waterloo incorporated as well . The city council decided to close the high school after only one year due to budget problems . However, due to some fundraising efforts by citizens, the high school reopened as Waukee East High School on October 1st of that year . In 1962, when Waterloo consolidated with Cedar Rapids into their current form, Waukee became a part of that merger as well In 1984-1985 Waukee’s water tower caught fire which caused extensive damage; however all residents were evacuated without injury and no property Damage resulted

Waukee is a town in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids-Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Waukee was incorporated on December 12, 1892. The town site of Waukee was founded in 1854 by German settlers and named "Weimar". A post office was established at Waukee in 1858, and the name was changed to "Waukee" on November 3, 1860. One of the first businesses in Waukee was a grocery store operated by James Jorgensen and his brother John. James Jorgensen died in 1872; his brother John continued the business until 1888. In 1889, local farmers formed a cooperative to sell grains and other items door to door. The first school in Waukee opened in 1893 with eight students from four families. The present building for the high school (now known as East High School) was built about 1915 based on designs by architect Harry Laughlin. In 1896, two men bought 4 acres (1 hectare) of land near where Waukee now stands for $100 each from Peter Auerbachs estate after he died intestate leaving $4 million to be divided among his children and grandchildren according to probate records from that year. The land became known as North Park and remains within Waukee today as one of its few remaining public parkland properties (along with portions of Iowa State University's Ames Quadrangle). In 1907–08 during Cedar Rapids' centennial celebration three schools were built within walking distance of each other: First Baptist Church (now Southside Mall), Methodist Episcopal Church (now West Side Mall), and Erie Intermediate School (now East High School). During this time there were also several small businesses located along US Highway 20 which connected downtown Cedar Rapids with these schools: blacksmith shop, dry goods store, Italian restaurant/bar called La Bella Vita Bianca/, shoe store/grocery store called Smith's Grocery & Hardware/, dance hall/theaters etc... This area later became known as North Park Place due to its proximity to North Park Drive which served as an arterial highway between Cedar Rapids and Des Moines during this period! On February 1st 1912 Maude Dibble delivered five cows into what would become what is now known as the Dairy Barn which still stands today across from First Baptist Church on North Park Drive north of Interstate 45th Street just east of Sioux City Road - providing milk for many years before becoming a Target Department Store! On October 17th 1922 when cash registers started being used for retail purposes it moved into new larger building located off I-45th Street between Southpark Boulevard & I-360th Street just east side Of Hwy 360th street opposite intersecting With USHighway 20
