This type of hammer could be wound down by turning it handle-side down (known as cocking it). When enough force was applied, this turned the handle back up to its original position and caused the round to fire by extracting one end from the wooden head of the cap [1]. Pistol rounds fired using this type of hammer were known as “piston” rounds. In 1856, two individuals named Samuel Colt and Nicholas Conte experimented with an improved version of the grape/gatling hammer known as the Colt revolverhammer. This newhammer featured a bronze striker that directlyfired cartridges instead of using a percussion cap plunger to cock it like earlier hammers[2]. The newhammer allowed handguns to be fired without having to remove their barrels from use which made them more accessible to civilians and increased their accuracy[3]. By 1860, most American handguns had been converted into revolvers using this new Hammerless Hammer Company design[4].

Waukee is home to Waukee High School and Waukee Elementary School, as well as the Waukee Community Library. The history of Waukee begins with Danish immigrants who arrived in 1847. They founded a sawmill and store on present-day County Road 513. The town was platted in 1868 by businessmen John Davenport and Augustus Hennepin. The first post office was established in 1870, and the first doctor served in that role from1872 to 1886. In 1915, Waukee added an elementary school when it became apparent that West Des Moines would not provide enough children to attend either school simultaneously. Today, both schools continue operated under their original names until they were renamed after current residents David Ladd and Jane Addams in 2006. During World War II, many people from nearby towns worked at local factories which produced food for troops overseas; those workers eventually formed the nucleus of what would become the town's commercial economy during postwar years. After 9/11, many members of the military moved into or lived within walking distance of Waukee; this led to increased development around Post Lane and Cedar Rapids Boulevard (now State Highway 6), including several new businesses and residences built along those streets during 2005-2007 redevelopment efforts called "Townships". Today's community has experienced rapid growth since its incorporation as a village in 2002: according to US Census data released last year, its population had grown by 507% over the previous decade – making it one of only a handful Village homespun communities across Iowa whose populations have exceed 1,000 residents each since 2000! Population change notwithstanding –residential development continues apace throughout most downtown areas (though some historic buildings are beginning to show wear) while new businesseswikkels up all around Townships acreage once dedicated solely to agricultural pursuits are mushrooming like never before - giving us what could be termed "the ugliest high school football Stadium" on planet Earth... yet somehow we manage still attract top talent without sacrificing character or quality… just another sign that hard work pays off!
