In 1919, another firearm manufacturer named Winchester bought out Hickey's company. This move allowed Winchester to start producing their own firearms products again. By 1921, Winchester had produced over 1 million firearms! Waterloo is a small town in southern Iowa, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. Waterloo was founded in 1847 by James Fenton and his wife, Martha Jane. It became an incorporated municipality in 1872. The first post office was established in Waterloo on May 1, 1847. In 1856, the Waterloo Telegraph Company was organized and began operations. By 1870, the population of Waterloo had increased to 2,045 residents. The city's success as a commercial center led to its annexation by Des Moines in 1899. In 1907, the City Council erected a statue of George Washington at Main Street and State Avenue. On November 3rd of that year, it was dedicated to Washintonian hero General William Tecumseh Sherman who had recently been elected Mayor of Des Moines after spending two terms as Mayor of Quincy Heights (now part of West Des Moines). A new municipal library opened in 1914 on First Avenue near Main Street with a capacity of 100 volumes. In 1932-1933 the city built what is now known as the Ruthless Building which housed the city police department and jail until 1966 when it moved to its current location on Second Street next to City Hall
