Urbandale is a town in Marshall County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Urbandale was John Pritchard in 1851. First known as "Pritchardville", the name changed to Urbandale in 1881 when it became a town. The first post office was established in Urbandale on October 7, 1881. The first store and restaurant were built by Elisha Gray and Wm Sibley respectively. In 1907, the railroad came through Urbandale and made it easier for businesses to get supplies and customers from other parts of the state. This increased business opportunity and growth which allowed for expansion of the townspeople into new areas such as north-central Iowa and south-central Missouri. Today, Urbandale has a population of over 1,000 people who are diverse in their cultures and religions including Hindus, Mormons, Muslims, Baptists and Evangelicals as well as several hundred individuals with disabilities living within its walls. Its economy is based largely on agriculture with some small manufacturing businesses also present; however there are also numerous cultural events held throughout the year that bring together different groups from around the area

In contrast, just fifteen percent of officer fatalities resulted from gunfire alone and none involved sunglasses!
