What started as a small community quickly grew into one of the most important towns in Johnson County during its time period. In 1870 alone, Urbana became home to over 100 people while Urdialle had just under 50 residents. By 1900, Urbana had increased to over 500 people and Urdialle numbered only around 60 residents again! In 1907, local businessmen John Aiken and Harry Goode donated land to build what would become known as Davenport University Park. Today, Davenport University Park remains an important part of the city of Urbana with more than 20 acres (8 hectares) dedicated to campus activities! During World War II, many locals volunteered their services and helped feed America's troops through food production initiatives such as Cannery Row Farms which produced goods for American soldiers stationed overseas. Many businesses closed during wartime due to lack of customers but many reopened shortly afterwards thanks to intense marketing campaigns by local merchants!
