Urbandale, IA is a town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1878 by Yankees who had come over the river from New York City. Urbandale is located on the edge of Black Hawk County and Johnson County and is bordered by the counties of Davenport and Dubuque to the north, Cedar Rapids to the east, and Waterloo to the south. The first settler in Urbandale was Abram Cramer who arrived in 1878. He built a log cabin on a small piece of land he bought from John Hendrickson. In 1879, Abraham & Sarah (Ferguson) Larson came overland from Holland with their two children Theo & Margaret and erected a cabin near what is now First Presbyterian Church. In 1880 they married Anna Lassen who also came overland that year. They settling here around 1881-1882 when they acquired 640 acres of land grants from George Washingburn which are now part of Urbandale Township. In 1890 John Neely established Neely's Grocery Store in what is now First Presbyterian Church which became an important commercial center for Urbandale for many years until it burned down in 1921 . In 1907 Charles Fenton built his home at 4th and Elm Streets which still stands today as one of Urbandale's most iconic buildings . In 1909 Orville Eversmeyer opened his millinery store at 5th Street and Elm Avenue which became known as "Eversmeyer's". In 1916 Averill Jenssen settled here with his family after moving from Omaha , Nebraska . His farm became known as Jenssenowne which later changed its name to Urbandale when he donated it to the township . By 1926 there were 10 businesses operating within Urbansdale including 7 grocery stores, 3 restaurants, 1 doctor’s office, 1 post office & 1 bank . It wasn't until after World War II that things started changing forUrbandsdale during this time period with significant growth coming through agriculture such as wineries production began expanding rapidly thanks to irrigation systems brought over from California ; however industry gradually began taking hold starting with urbane tire manufacture starting up in 1951 followed by later machine shops such as Ford Motor Company becoming interested; finally industrial development peaked during the early 1970s when both trucking companies (Cargill/KFC)and pharmaceutical company (Lilly) moved into town bringing major changes along side it resulting in much job creation! Today despite continued economic stagnation throughout much recent history numerous new businesses have sprung up such as digital marketing agency; Simply Organic Market; Baked goods store called "Bakersfield"; rental property services company called "Rent-A-Center" while several notable old businesses continue to operate such as The Old Mill Barbecue House (& Grille), Mrs. Everson's Bakery (now closed), First Presbyterian Church (& School), Abram Cramer's Cabin (now gone). Later this decade plans were announced for a large shopping mall located adjacent to First Presbyterian Church but due to opposition by local residents no action ever took place unfortunately leavingUrbandsdale without its promised amenities !

Williams' importance to Urbannaes development can be seen in multiple ways: he helped establish the town as a rail transportation center; he developed industries within the town; and he helped make Urbanae an important city on Iowa's eastern border. In addition, Williams is credited with creating what is now known as "the Wright brothers' village," which functioned as their home base while they traveled between Dayton, Ohio and Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (the first time anyone has ever flown using powered flight). Despite its successful past, today's Urbendale faces many challenges both physical and social. For example, recent studies have shown thatUrbanae suffers from high levels of poverty; there are few quality jobs available for locals; and young people often lack access to education or economic opportunities.]]
