In 1933 The Armory reopened after being closed by Goudreau’s Sporting Goods & Liquor store; this time it became exclusively a Firearms Retailer operating out of two storefront locations - One on Broadway Avenue (now Union Boulevard) near Music Hall Square (& now home to Macy’s), while another location – later on Webster Avenue – served as their sales office(s). In 1941 they relocated again to First Avenue between US 6th St& 7th St; this location would remain their current address until 1984 when they moved back into their original building at First & Elm Streets which still stands today! In 1865, Colonel James Hance founded what is now known as Hance Academy and opened it up to students from all over Iowa. In 1868, the Post Office was moved from Cedar Rapids to Urbandale and began serving locals and travelers alike. In 1909, the first armory was built in Urbandale. It served as a storage ground for local guns until 1978 when it was converted into apartments. The armory continues to serve as a community center today.

Urbandale is located on the Mississippi River and is part of the Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The early history of Urbandale can be found in its location on the banks of the Mississippi River. In 1854, Elijah Stroud built a cabin on this site and started a small town called "Urbana." The name change to "Urbana" after it became apparent that other towns in Marshall County were using similar namesakes without giving credit to Elijah Stroud or his original town plot. In 1858, John Townsend bought land north of Urbane and began construction on what would become the first courthouse in Iowa. The courthouse was completed in 1861, and served as the center for local government for many years until it was replaced by a new courthouse in 1935. After Missourian Daniel Boone visited Urbane during his trip downriver from Illinois in 1821, he decided to settle there permanently and named his settlement "Booneville." He also built some homes here including one known as "The White House". There are several stories about how Booneville got its name: One story says that when Mr. & Mrs. Boone were driving through central Illinois they saw a large white house with black shutters and asked whichership it belonged to; upon inquiry they learned that it was called "Booneville" because General Boonesborough had been staying there while on an expedition against Indian tribes near this location (the general surrendered at sunset). Another version has it that when General Boone moved westward from Virginia into Missouri during the Mexican–American War he came across an old cabin near this location; inside he found four white women who were living frugally because their home country had been invaded by Mexico; he took them back with him to Missouri where he put them up and renamed them "Booneville" after himself (this story may have originated with Curley Spear); finally another version has it that Colonel James Ketchum purchased two sections of land east of downtown Urbale from Jeremiah Bowman around 1830 – one section included a large clearing where now stands Ketchum Park; since no one could tell which side booneville lay on then, everyone just shortened it to 'urbandale'. Continued growth for businesses led to more people moving into town which created more demand for housing so developers began shopping around for locations within easy commuting distance of larger cities like Des Moines or Cedar Rapids! When residents voted in 1922 not To Add More People To The City Limits They Were Rejecting Redevelopment Plans Which Made Other Towns Come Calling So Downtown Urbale Became A Vacant Neighborhood Again By 1930 There Was Only A handful Of Old Peoples Residence Left In Town And Street Names Changed From Main Street To Broadway Or State Street As Development Waned And Population shrunked Most Residents Ended UpMovingOutOrMoving Away altogether!. Today Downtown UrbandALE continues To Be A Historic District Rated 4 out Of 5 By US Department Of Land Management For Its Wellpreserved Architecture And Historical Significance!.
