Bullet History in Urbandale began on July 1, 1894 when a rifle company called “The Iowans” was organized at Urbandale by Major George Fenton and Captain John Burchill. The company was made up of men fromIowa City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Fort Dodge. On July 1st, 1894, The Iowans Company arrived at Urbandale from Ft Dodge with their new rifle which they named the Model 1895 Rifle. This rifle was designed by Colonel John Aikens and built by Wm Henchman & Sons of Amesbury, Massachusetts. It had a breech loading system that allowed it to fire either ball or cartridge cases with either shot or lead rounds. Colonel Fenton decided to use this weapon to defend the town against Native Americans who had set up camp near the town limits. On October 3rd1894 three Native Americans were killed with this rifle while fighting off American troops led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer Jr.. In 1899-1900 two more companies were formed within The Iowans Company: one called “The Knights” and another called “The Nines” These companies served as support arms for The Iowans Company during combat missions outside of townlimits. By 1915- 1916 there were only five companies remaining within The Iowans Company consisting of 238 soldiers total! By 1918 all but four of these companies had been disbanded due to World War 1). Over time various modifications to this old German pattern Rifle have been made including the M1917 Carbine which saw action during World War II; however these rifles are no longer available for purchase or sale in America today due to regulations placed upon them by the National Firearms Act (NFA).

Urbandale is home to the University of Northern Iowa and the Urbandale Regional Airport. The city was founded in 1887 by Reuben Furman and his wife Lilla. It became a town in 1907 and an unincorporated community in 1912. In 1935, it merged with neighboring Scott City to form Urbandale-Scott City. The merger led to the name change for Urbandale once again to its current form of Urbandale-Urbana on July 1, 1936. In 1907, the first electric light was installed in the town. In 1916, the first gasoline station was built in Urbandale. In 1922, a post office was established in the town. The United States Post Office Administration transferred Urabandale from Iowa to Illinois on November 25, 1930.
