Urbandale, Iowa is a town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines metropolitan area. In 1916, it merged with J H Smith & Sons Machine Works to form H Smith & Urbach Machine Works Incorporated which continued to produce farm machines until 1957 when it became an independent company again under the name H Smith Ltd.. In 1960, Urabandale Consolidated School District No 2 merged into Wilson County Schools which continues to serve as their governing body today. Today, there are three businesses inUrbandsdale that continue to serve as important cultural symbols for this small community: The Grange Museum & Garden (opened in 1956), The Service Station (opened in 1978) and The Cemetery (open since 1916). The Servicemen’s Monument at Third Streetand Illinois Avenue commemorates members ofthe United States military who have servedin or aroundUrbandsdale throughout its history including World War I through World War II(including Korean War service).
