Pella, Iowa is a small town located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids-Des Moines-West Des Moines metropolitan area and is home to the University of Iowa campus as well as a number of businesses and institutions including Pella Veterinary Hospital and Pella Elementary School. The name "Pella" originated from one of two German families that settled in what is now Pella in 1848. The original settlers were Nicholas Jorgensen and his family who farmed land on the west side of town for a period of years before moving east to what is now Cedar Rapids in 1851. In 1857, John Aiken bought some property east of town and laid out a township which became Pella Township in 1870. The name "Pella" was first given to this location by Cornelius Olson who named it after his hometown, Petersburg, Russia where he had been born in 1819. In 1915, during World War I, Pella joined with other towns within Cedar Rapids-Des Moines-West Des Moines to form the United States Army Ammunition Plant Area No. 3 (UAMSAP3). This site was adjacent to present day UIcampus and remained operational until 1969 when it was decommissioned following wars with Iraq and Yugoslavia combined forces which resulted in large numbers of casualties among both combatants and civilians alike; however, much remains today still visible from those wartime days such as buildings that remain standing or remnants from munitions production which took place throughout downtown Plla today like this former engine house still used for storage purposes; furthermore many roads running through downtown have since been renamed Streets after members or veterans of local military service who also lived or worked here during peacetime; examples include 6th Street south which served as an ammunition manufacturing depot while Main Street ran parallel across from it becoming 4th Street later

In 1872, a post office was established in Pella and it remained in operation until 1978. In 1907, Pella became an incorporated city. The city's population peaked at over 10,000 people in 1961 before slowly declining over the next few decades. This included almost all housing projects that had taken place around town during this time period such as: Wells Fargo Center redevelopment project (1998-2001); Grady HealthCare Campus redevelopment project (2002-2005); Parkwest Mall redevelopment project (2006-2008); First Midwest Bank Tower redevelopment project (2009-2011).
