Gun targets have been a part of Pella, Iowa's history for many years. The first target shooting preserve in the area was established in 1892 by two local farmers, Isaac Sells and John Ransom. At that time, there were no guns or targets available to shoot at. The two men collected old shotguns and rifles from around town and created a small range near their home. They used these to shoot wooden balls at small targets placed around the property. In 1915, they opened a larger target range on the east side of town. This allowed people from all over the city to come and shoot at small game and pistols. By 1934, both ranges had been closed down due to state restrictions on firearm ownership. However, some remnants of these earlier days still remain today as the Pella Historical Museum hosts displays about guntarget shooting in Pella and its surrounding areas.

The first gun target in Pella was a stocky, dark-haired man with a rifle who was sitting in his home on the edge of town. The first shots were fired at 6:00 A.M. on Sunday, December 15th, 1851, when Captain Jameson opened fire on a group of Indians that had been raiding near his farmhouse. The Sioux shot back and killed Captain Jameson and two of his men before they could reload their rifles. The first gun target to be erected in Pella was an eagle that stood tall from the ground and looked out over the town square. It was built by Lieutenant Jenson in 1857 and is still standing today. In 1865, Major John Dickey got possession of a large cannonball that he found lying down in a field outside of town. He took it into town and set it up as the centerpiece of the square in front of the courthouse. The new target hall inside the courthouse now houses both guns and other targets for shooters to use during events such as fairs or concerts.
Pella, Iowa is a small town located in the western part of the United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is considered a rural community and has a mostly agricultural economy. The name Pella comes from an early settler, James Pella, who arrived in 1851. The first post office in Pella was established on November 15, 1855. In 1907, Pella became a city and retains that designation to this day. In 1959, the last farm census found only 83 acres remaining unoccupied in Pella Township which had been annexed by Sioux City when it was organized as a city. Pella has several churches including the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and one Pentecostal church with about 150 members. There are also two Jehovah's Witnesses Witnesses congregations and two used car lots for recreational purposes are located within easy walking distance of each other. There are also several businesses including four grocery stores (Estate Grocery, Pharmacy/Chemist Warehouse Co-Op., hardware store and feed store), three banks (Iowa State Bank & Trust Company, First National Bank of Omaha and Community Savings Bank) as well as six restaurants (Bakery OSH Park Cafe & Bakery- casual dining; Grilled Cheese Shop - steakhouse quality food; Italian Restaurant - pizza; Chinese Restaurant - HunanESE cuisine). A variety of arts programs are offered through local organizations such as a yearbook club and choir group or art class for children K-12th gradeinderwhile there is also an annual Pumpkin Festival that includes live music and pumpkin carving contests among many other activities throughout the week which keeps things fun for everyone!

The following are some of the more notable aspects of Pella's past: -It is home to two national historic landmarks - The George Bemis House and The First National Bank Building. These structures were designated as National Historic Landmarks in 1978 and 1984 respectively. -In 1951, Pella hosted the inaugural World Congress on Ecology at Drake University which helped spur interest in environmental issues around the world. -In 2004, Pela became one of five towns in Iowa City to receive unanimous approval from their local government forhood status as an independently incorporated municipality within city limits only; this distinction allows for greater economic development potential within the town while retaining certain municipal rights and responsibilities
Pella was founded in 1847 by Daniel Webster and his wife. The town was named after General Pella, who fought in the Mexican-American War. Pella's first post office opened in 1851. The city was incorporated in 1878 and annexed by the City of Cedar Rapids in 1907. In 1916, Pella became a state capital.
