The Ottumwa Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1886. The club is the oldest rifle and pistol club in Iowa. The club has been active in various sports, including target shooting, since its inception. In 1907, the Ottumwa Rifle and Pistol Club constructed a clubhouse on the east side of town. The building still stands today and is used as the club’s meeting room. In 1923, the Ottumwa Rifle and Pistol Club purchased an old blacksmith shop on West State Street in Ottumwa. This building remains a part of the club today and is used for storage purposes. In 1954, the Ottumwaa Rifle and Pistol Club moved to its present location on South Main Street in Ottumwa. The new clubhouse was built with financial support from members of the community. Today, the OttumWA Rifle & Pistol Club offers a variety of programs for members ranging from trap shooting to reloading instruction. In addition to these programming opportunities, team shooting events are also held throughout year at local parks across town!

The population is made up of American Indians (chiefs and members of tribes), Hispanics (of any race), Asians (of any race), and whites. In 2000, there were also a small number of Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander citizens living in Ottumwa. The town began as a lumber town during the early 1800s. It developed into a agricultural community post-World War II as production shifted from agriculture to textiles and other high-tech businesses. Today, Ottumwa is home to a variety of businesses including two dozen grain elevators that process feed for livestock; two hospitals with over 100 beds; four schools; one daycare center; seven churches; three banks; and one funeral home. The city has also been host to numerous events such as the Iowa State Fairgrounds' Horse Show on august 17th & 18th each year since 1911. Ottumwa's rich history can be traced back to its founders: John Bigham and James Cramer who arrived in 1836 when they were both farmers living on the same acreage near present day Ottumwa Township. They founded what would become the first white school in Iowa – Baptist Female Academy – which opened its doors September 5th, 1837 under teacher Mrs Welshman’s tuition system where students could attend free if they had an “adequate means” beyond their family resources including land or money for school supplies. The academy quickly became an important hub for education for women across rural America due to its low tuition rates along with Ms Welshman’s excellent teaching skills which helped prepare many future leaders like Margaret Sanger who founded Planned Parenthood USA in 1916 from her farmhouse at 222 Broome Street just south of downtown Ottumwaa! In 1853 local resident Jacob Green purchased 640 acres east of present day Ottumwa Township from David Pogue for $8 per acre! This was an incredible piece of land that would later become known as Prairie View A&M University and still houses some of Prairie View A&M's most iconic buildings today including Administration Building #2 (opened 1922) shaped like a Prairie View A&M flagstaff with spindles coming out all around it while new Administration Building#3 replaced it following tornado damage on October 3rd 1997! Jacob Green also donated five acres adjacent to his property which became Knowles Park after he died suddenly aged 71 years old on July 10th 1902!
