Oskaloosa is home to the Iowa State Fairgrounds where nearly every day there are events including rodeos and agricultural shows among others. There are also concerts series throughout the year which offer something for everyone from classical music to country music to rock concerts!

Oskaloosa is a city in Des Moines County, Iowa, United States. The population was 33,853 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in the county and the seat of Des Moines. Oskaloosa was founded by two brothers, John and Lewis Kapp and their father Isaac Kapp on December 24, 1855. The city was named for General George Armstrong Custer during his 1860s military campaign against Sioux Native Americans in Dakota Territory. In 1875, Oskaloosa's first post office opened with five addresses: Kapp House #2 (now home of the Iowa Arts Council), First National Bank Building #1 (now occupied by Wells Fargo bank), Second National Bank Building #5 (now home to Cottonwood Coffee Roasters), and Third National Bank Building #7 (now occupied by HolyRedeemer Lutheran Church). In 1892–93, local businessmen organized an agricultural fair called "The Great Western Fair", which became one of Iowa's most popular events. This event eventually led to the founding of TheIowa State Fairgrounds corporation in 1907. In 1926, Oskaloosa received its own hospital when Cedar Rapids Medical Center opened its doors as Cedar Rapids General Hospital. The hospital would later become known as Cedar Rapids Health System. On April 3, 1938 American Nazi party member Adolf Heimann committed suicide inside Cedar Rapids Health System after being caught up in government investigations into possible white supremacist activity within the health system. A year earlier on March 25th American Communist Party member Harry Bridges had also killed himself inside the same hospital after being discovered with identification cards from a Comintern espionage ring that he had joined while working as an orderly at Cedar Rapids Medical Center
The town of Oskaloosa was founded in 1857 by wagon train drivers and their families. The first post office was established in the town in 1858. In 1870, a railroad was built through Oskaloosa and the town began to grow. In 1886, a high school was established in Oskaloosa and the population grew to over 500 people. By 1914, the town had a population of 1,000 people and it became an incorporated municipality. On July 5, 1916, the name of the town changed from Oskaloosa to Coralville after local residents voted to change its name. The city of Coralville was formed from parts of Oskaloosa on December 15, 1966
