The post office was founded on March 15, 1860, and served until January 3, 1865; it was replaced by an assay office that same year. In 1886 Oskaloosa had a schoolhouse and two churches: First Presbyterian and Methodist. On October 1 of that year the school burned down and no new building could be erected until 1888 when a Baptist church (the present Emmanuel Episcopal Church) was built on Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue. This church remains today as one of Oskaloosa's most popular tourist attractions with its large stone façade and beautiful stained glass windows In 1912 Oskaloosa had two stores: JB Fenton & Son operated a grocery store on Center Street while Haggerty’s Hardware operated on Park Avenue across from First Presbyterian Church On December 5th of that year an event which would have long-lasting consequences took place in Oskaloosa when German Americans organized what would become known as the "Second Hussite Rebellion" against American rule over Germany Following World War I there were growing pressures to leave American society due to changes taking place within America itself such as women gaining voting rights The result of this pressure led to unrest throughout America which culminated with the 1917 “American Revolution” which began with November 8th of that year with members of Congress signing into law statehood for Oklahoma Territory
