The Fullers built a small farm near the present-day intersection of County Road A and State Highway 507, which is now known as First Street. They continued to operate their farm until around 1915 when they sold it to Julius Laughlin. Over the next few years, Laughlin developed the area into what is today North Liberty. He built a small brick building at First Street and Court Avenue that still stands today. This building is known as the Laughlin Building and housed many local businesses during its time as a business district in North Liberty. The development of North Liberty began with its location within walking distance of many local farms that produced food for local residents and markets across Iowa. This proximity led to significant growth in both population and businesses over time. One such example is the Laughlin Building itself which saw many changes over its lifetime including becoming home to several restaurants, stores, offices, apartments, and more during its various incarnations throughout its lifespan. It is also notable for being one of only two buildings in entire downtown North Liberty that remain standing from when it first opened up in 1916-17 through 2017-2018 intact! Today, North Liberty continues to be an important part of Iowa’s culture with multiple businesses existing throughout most of its core commercial districts namely First Street & Court Avenue; Broadway; Union Terminal; Stoneleigh Mall; Southridge Shopping Center; Midtown Square Mall; Market Plaza Shopping Center & Eastern Market Place; Assembling Centers - N/A
