This design was first patented by John Weaver in 1875. North Liberty is a small town in the Iowa State Capitol District, located in northwest Iowa. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. North Liberty is part of the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area and has a long history as an agricultural center with dairy, hog, cattle and poultry production. The first post office in North Liberty was established on December 2, 1853. It was renamed Quincy on May 15, 1907 after John Quincy Adams, third U.S. President. The first settler in what is now North Liberty was Levi Richardson who came to the area from Illinois in 1839. He built a cabin on what is now South First Street in 1840-41 and named it Richardsonstown after his father-in-law Nicholas Carlino Richardson who had come to the area earlier that year from Italy with his family. Richardsonstown became North Liberty when he sold it to Samuel Pemberton in 1845 for $1 per acre (about $). In 1865 Drury Wills bought land north of present day South Third Street and founded Willsville about two miles east of northeast corner of First and Second Streets which eventually became North Liberty too due to its location near state capitol buildings at that time. The first store in what is now North Liberty opened on November 17, 1884 by Leland Stanford Jr., one of America's largest railroad entrepreneurs and co-founder of Stanford University with Menlo Park California resident William Gates also opening a store there soon afterwards which continued until 1992 when it merged into Walgreens Boots Alliance as part of their larger purchase of Rite Aid Corporation Dairy products were produced here beginning around 1886 when James Aiken started farming Holsteins cows near what is now Fourth Street while others began raising pigs early on including Elijah Eaton who started operations near where Third Avenue meets Eighth Street In 1902 Fenton Harkins set up a feed mill here which continues operation today as Harkins Feeder Incorporated Dairy products continue to be produced here throughtout most Recent years other crops have been planted such as potatoes/corn etc but these are not major contributors to local economy
north Liberty was first settled in 1836 by George and Mary Hepler. The town was named for the north side of the Iowa River. North Liberty was founded as a small farming community, with only a few homes and a store. By 1850, North Liberty had developed into a small city with over 100 residents. In 1881, North Liberty became the capital of Iowa when Des Moines was moved from West Des Moines to become the capital of Iowa. In 1911, North Liberty was renamed to honor General James Egan who led American forces in the Mexican-American War. In 1921, General John J. Pershing established an airfield in North Liberty and called it Camp Pershing. The airfield served as the home ground for United States military operations during World War II. The town has experienced many changes throughout its history - in 1984,North Liberty became known as the "City of Progress". In 2002, North Liberty made history when it became home to the world's first wind turbine farm
