In 1847, a group of men from Newton, Iowa started a small business selling optical accessories. The company was known as the "Optical Shop of Newton". In 1951, the company changed its name to International Instrument Corporation and continued to sell optical accessories until it ceased operations in 1988. The Optical Shop of Newton is now open as a museum. The history of optics begins with the development of mirrors in the 6th century B.C.E., when Greeks and Romans used light to view objects in 3-D space. In 1795, Frenchman Joseph-Angeois improved upon this technology by creating a mirror that could be turned into an image on a screen or window without being touched. This innovation led to the development of movies and TV shows using projection systems that required no intermediaries other than viewers sitting at home with special equipment (see early cinema). After World War II, technology advanced so rapidly that new types of mirror were needed for military purposes such as night vision goggles and radar equipment. With this increased demand for mirror technology, companies like GE invented new manufacturing processes that gave them control over how their Mirror Products were made." During the late 1800s and early 1900s, advances in photography allowed people to create pictures and videos almost anywhere they wanted without having to take anypictures or videos outside. This ledto more widespread use of photography throughout society which eventually led tothe inventionof videotape/video tape storage devices in 1952."

Newton, Iowa is a small town in Marshall County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. Newton is part of the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City metropolitan area. The community was founded by John Newton in 1855 as a sawmill town on the banks of the Hawkeye River. It was named after George Washington and his brother-in-law, Major Benjamin Franklin. In 1870, Newton became an incorporated city and in 1904 it merged with neighboring Ames to form Cedar Rapids. Newton's downtown is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian architecture from different eras. There are also several businesses in Newton that date back to before 1900 including the Post Office Building (1898), J.C.'s Bakery (1901), and Dillard's Department Store (1910). One of Newton's most famous residents was Orville Wright who made his first airplane flight there on October 14th 1903. Today, Newton remains a small community with close ties to its agricultural roots through its Farmers' Market which hosts local produce every Sunday morning from 9am until 3pm beginning May 1st through October 15th year round; its own private schools; and its own police department which has jurisdiction over both Streetsboro Township and Manor Township

In 1865, Averill Cameron created the world's first true reflex camera, which used an objective lens that rotated on its axis to capture pictures. After this, all other photographic technologies followed suit- including digital cameras and SLR's (personalized light reflex cameras). Today, we continue to use optical lenses for Photography because they provide amazing results such as sharpness and detail while also allowing us to shoot in any environment imaginable without worry of blurriness or noise.

Today, there are over 100 businesses in Newton and it is considered an agricultural center due to its fertile land and large corn crop. In 1898, General John Pershing routing American troops through Iowa during World War I stopped at Newton on his way from Cedar Rapids to Kansas City. The town experienced a period of growth following this event and by 1920 had a population of 553 people. However, during the Great Depression that began in 1929, Newton's economy contracted severely and by 1935 it had only 242 residents remaining. Newton went through several name changes before becoming known as Cedar Rapids again in 1980. today its population is under 500 people
