The community is named after Isaac Newton, one of English mathematician's Principia Mathematica (1687). Newton is located at 41° 54′ North, 94° 0′ West (41.9604, 94.08959). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2 square miles (5 km²), all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 337 people, 119 households, and 86 families residing in the town. The population density was 10 people per square mile (4/km²). There were 128 housing units at an average density of 4 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White and 3% African American. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 1%of the population. There were 119 households out of which 36% had children underthe ageof 18 living with them, 59% were married couples living together, 8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24% were non-families. 20%of all households were made up of individuals and 5% had someonefrom another household

On November 3, 1809, Isaac Newton was born in Newton, Iowa. The town of Newton was founded by a group of farmers in 1847 and is still home to a few residents.
