In 1892, a group of men from Muscatine, Iowa formed the muskets and rifles club. The club sponsored a rifle match between two companies from different towns in 1892. The match was won by the company from Muscatine. In 1896, the club organized a shot put competition to raise money for the local school. They also held a small game show to attract attention to their event. The club continued to grow in popularity and membership over time. In 1907, they organized their own rifle range and began hosting matches there as well.Over time, theclub became more focused on reloading and target shooting than just shotgunning events. In 1912, they held their first Trapshooting Competition which was successful enough that they decided to hold another competition every year until 1916 when World War I intervened and they cancelled the tournaments due to military restrictions. During World War I, the club sponsored an American Legion Infantry Officers' ball at their range which was one of the most popular events during that time period. After World War I ended, they resumed sponsoring Trapshoot competitions but these were eventually discontinued due to lack of interest or changing regulations regarding shotguns being used for hunting purposes in Iowa during that time period (1918-1945).

The largest employer in Muscatine is Medtronic Illusions LLC which employs seventy five people at its muscatine branch alone.
