Muscatine, Iowa is a small town located in the western part of the state of Iowa. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census, making it the largest community in Muscatine County. The name was anglicized to "Muscatine" in 1857 by a group of farmers who had moved to that area from Keokuk County, Iowa. The first post office was established in Muskatine on July 3, 1860. It was renamed Hutchinson on July 1st of that year by order of Governor Noble Burt. In 1865, it became a district post office with headquarters at Morrill City Limits (now Northrop Grumman). On November 15th of that year, it merged with Wheeler Township to form newly created Muscatine Township. On January 1st of 1907 it became an independent municipality with its own government under Mayor John Jorgenson. On April 6th 1912 President Woodrow Wilson delivered his most famous speech from Cedar Rapids about programs for Reconstruction within America which included some mention about MUSCATINE township being one such program which he would fund as part of his plan known as "New Deal". This speech helped spur more business investment into MUSCATINE township which led to better economic conditions for both residents and businesses alike during the 1920s thru 1940s boom times period! It wasn't until March 4th 1957 when news arrived back east that John Fenton had been elected mayoralty winner against incumbent Milton Shearer with 50% of the vote! For many years since then you could hear boxing fans cheering outside city limits every time either fighter won or lost their bouts inside MUSCATINE Municipal Stadium! One very proud moment for MUSCATINE township occurred when we hosted our very own visit by world renowned entertainer Liberace on May 20th 1979! His show started at 7pm sharp and ended up running all day long!!! Needless to say there were plenty of empty seats but everyone enjoyed chatting with Mr Liberace during his stay including my much loved husband Philibert!! Today muscatine has seen continued growth as an agricultural center thanks largely to advancements made recently in corn breeding technology through NORTHERNIowa Corn Pioneer Association (NCPA) research projects funded by USDA's Weevil Program; advances also being made towards lower priced ethanol production through PURIFYING American Ethanol Production Incorporated; presently almost all major employers are located within municipal boundaries making this an attractive location not only for people working here but also visitors looking to enjoy quality life amenities while living close by! With so many opportunities available nowadays why wouldn't someone wantto call themselvesmuscatines?

The Muscatine, Iowa history begins with the arrival of the first European settlers in 1832. The area that is now Muscatine was part of what was then called the Dakota Territory. The first Europeans to arrive were French traders and missionaries. They brought with them their livestock, crops, and other belongings. In 1845, a group of Mormons arrived in Muscatine from Illinois. They started a small village near present-day Muscatine and began trading goods with the Indians. In 1855, the Ames Railroad was built throughMuscatine and this allowed for more people and business to come into town. In 1865, the first school was established in Muscatine by Reverend Alfred Hinton. By 1870, there were five schools in Muscatine; three public schools and one private school. In 1885, a post office was established inmuscaratINE and it continued to be used until 1915 when it became known as Sioux City Post Office. In addition to its role as a center for trade and commerce, Muscatine also served as an important military outpost during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location on the southern edge of Iowa Territory at least 50 miles from any major city or fortifications
