Muscatine is a small town located in Iowa, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Muscatine County. The first European to see Muscatine was Captain John Smith in 1676 when he explored the area for his expedition led by General James K. Polk during the American Revolution. In 1846, the city of Muscatine was founded by Majors J.W. Hays and A.T. Stephenson after they were awarded land in what is now Muscatine County by President James K. Polk as part of the Gadsden Purchase Agreement. The city grew rapidly due to its location along the Burlington Railroad and its close proximity to Omaha, Nebraska which served as an important transportation hub for both eastern and western America during this time period In 1921, Muscatine became part of the new state of Iowa when it was created from parts of Iowa and Minnesota following the passage of Senate Bill 524 As a result, many businesses moved into town from other states such as Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and North Dakota during this time period including Furniture Row Inc., Schlumberger Limited, Cargill Companies LP (then Cargill Meat Packers), US Steel Corp., Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company et al The city has seen rapid growth since then with current boundaries reflecting only 1/5th of its original size

Muscatine is a small town in Iowa, located about 20 miles east of Des Moines. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. Muscatine is one of the oldest towns in Iowa and was founded in 1836 by farmers who came from Muscatine, England. The community became a city in 1907 and has since been enlarged to its current size. The first post office in Muscatine was established on December 12, 1836, and served for six months. The first store opened in 1837. In 1840, an attorney named George White built the first courthouse in Muscatine. The courthouse burned down in 1846, but was replaced by a new building that still stands today. In 1862, General David Dixon Ulysses S. Grant visited Muscatine and recommended that the town be moved from its location near Clear Lake to what is now downtown Muscatine due to the strategic location for military training during the Civil War. On July 9, 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant authorized the purchase of 640 acres (248 ha) of land just north of downtown Muscatine for $2 per acre ($160 psf). This land would eventually become home to many businesses and homes withinmusatine's current boundaries including Riverbend Mall®, which opened its doors on October 25th 2017
In 1851, the first post office was established in Muscatine. The town was named for a creek which ran through it. In 1904, the city of Muscatine was founded andMuscatine became a part of its jurisdiction.
