T-shirts are a long and rich history in the city of Mason City, Iowa. The first t-shirts were created in 1922 by a group of students at the Masonic Temple School District. They were printed on white cotton and sold for $1.50 each. In 1934, a company called Western Shirt Company was founded in Mason City by some of the original students from the Masonic Temple School District. They produced t-shirts with designs such as cowboy hats, rifles, horses, and Indians. The company was purchased by Levi Strauss & Co., which continued to produce t-shirts until 1977. In that year, Western Shirt Company merged with another company called Star Clothing to form Star Brands Incorporated. Star Brands operated as a shirt manufacturing business until it was bought by American Eagle Outfitters in 1987. American Eagle Outfitters continued to operate the factory until it closed in 1992. During its time as an operating subsidiary of American Eagle Outfitters, Star Brands manufactured over 1 million shirts. Since its closure, only a few pieces of equipment have been used at the factory that produces T-shirts: two presses used to create these shirts’ fabric; and one machine used to cut them into various shapes and sizes

As capital city it functioned as both a government center for all of southern Iowa and as a commercial center for farmers exporting goods to Mexico and California during that time period. On January 1, 1907 – just over one hundred years after Cedar Rapids had become an incorporated village – it became an unincorporated community again when it amalgamated with other nearby villages into what is now known as West Des Moines Township. In 1920 voters approved changing the name once again but this time it stuck because “Cedar Rapids has been our home since before there were any towns hereabouts." In 1927 officials changed it once again but this time reverted back to its original spelling “Mason City” due largely to objections from some residents who felt having two different names would make them feel like outsiders among their own people.< br />During World War II many homes were destroyed or heavily damaged by airstrikes from airplanes flown over Normandy Battlefields hence most people refer to Mason City today simply as "West Des Moines Township".

Mason City, Iowa was founded in 1847 by John Mason and his wife Rebecca. The city is named for John Mason's older brother, George Washington Mason. The city was first populated by the Sac and Fox Indians. In the 1860s, the town was renamed Cedar Rapids because of its abundance of cedar trees. In 1871, the city became a dry county and lost its water supply. It regained its water supply in 1912 when a canal was built through the town. The population of Mason City rose to over 100,000 by 1920. However, World War II caused many factories to close in Iowa and in 1945 the population fell to about 30,000. Since then, the city has experienced a number of economic setbacks including several years of decline during which it had only 1% job growth statewide. However, in 2009-2010 there were slight increases in jobs with an annualized increase of 2%. As a result of these positive developments, Mason City has been reborn as one of Iowa's most prosperous cities with populations over 50,000 and growing each year

Mason City was founded in 1854 by John Mason and his family. The town quickly developed into a major center for agriculture, processing and shipping goods. In the late 1800s, Mason City became known as the "Silk Road of the Midwest." The city experienced some growth during World War II, but has since declined in population.
