Marshalltown, Iowa is a town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,959 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines metropolitan area. The first post office in Marshalltown was established on October 1, 1873. The present town was organized in 1881. The first store and mill were built in Marshalltown and are still standing today. A sawmill and gristmill were also built in Marshalltown during this time. The land for the present-day town was donated by James Hancey to the community in 1881. In 1907 the first public school opened in Marshalltown with five students from Springdale Township nearby. In 1912 a water tower and pump station were added to the community center which served as the town's water source until 1955 when a well was installed on private land near Interstate 35 and US Highway 20. In 1950 Marshallstown began offering its own high school education which soon became successful enough that it merged with neighboring Springdale High School to form one large high school which remains today as "Marshallstown East" High School (formerly "Springdale-Marshalltown High School"). In addition to their high school education, many residents of Marshallsburg attend local Community College located just east of town off I-35W or west of US Highway 20/US Highway 622 for business or technical courses such as welding or computer programming; these courses are not offered at their regular high schools because they take place closer to home across city boundaries within larger Career Centers). Marshalltown is a town in Mahoning County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines–Urbana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Marshalltown were Levi Cook and his family who arrived in 1836. Cook's grandson, John Cook, founded the city of Marshalltown on November 15, 1855. The original town plat included 4 blocks bounded by First Street to the north, Second Street to the east and Third Street to the south. The town name was chosen by a vote of citizens at a meeting on November 2nd. A post office called Marshalltown was established in 1857 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1871, an act authorizing creation of a new township within Mahoning County was passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Governor Frank Lydon. The new township contained all of what is now Marshalltown except for part of what became Waterloo Township which continued to be represented by its separate board of trustees until 1893 when it became one block full with Marshalltown as its centerpiece. On May 3rd 1870 there were only 342 residents living in 185square miles within present day Mahoning County when it undertook its first surveyor general election; this number had grown to over 725 residents within 10 years! Eventually 8 acres were acquired from Mr & Mrs Cady Gable along Warsaw Road near where Interstate 80 now runs; this area became known as “The Gables” due to their ownership and placement thereof during those early days prior to airport expansion which also saw numerous homes built along nearby streets such as Elmwood Avenue (& later State Highway 14) – making Marshalltown one very active community indeed! As soon as River Valley Airport opened on October 11th 1947 following months worthof planning and construction (including groundbreaking ceremonies held at nearby Union Pacific Railroad yards), Marshalltown quickly emerged as one of central Iowa’s most vibrant cities! Not content with simply being an American military airfield open to all manner Of Aircraft representing every nation then operating out there stationed worldwide; Rapid City-based Seawolf Airlines quickly leased property adjacent ion 1961 becoming operational under that name; thus giving us our current name “MarshallTown-Seawolf Airlines Incorporated”! Today’s city limits extend back even further than that original settlement date with many buildings still standing dating back prior thereto including Delaware Avenue (& later US Highways 24 & 283) – once home todayto several businessesfolk (& families!) who took up residency thereduring those early days prior both before & after IA300 construction began… anything goes nowadays 😊

The first settler in what is now Marshalltown was John Witherspoon in 1847. In 1881, the town of Marshallton was platted and named for General George Armstrong Custer who had died during the American Civil War. The post office called it "Custer" from then on until 1903 when it changed to "Marshalltown". In 1907, a new train station was built south of the old one and named for General Ulysses S. Grant which served as the main hub for transportation in central Iowa until World War II when trains stopped coming because of the war. Marshalltown became an industrial center after opening up some land to manufacturing in 1919 with 3 small plants producing radios, radios Detonators (for artillery), and flour before moving into larger plants such as US Steel and Raytheon. In 1957 they moved their plant to nearby Moline which continues to make electronic components today. It also has been home to many businesses that have closed or left over time including JBL Audio (now Beats by Dr Dre), Sears Roebuck & Co., Hormel Foods Inc., US Baking Company (now Arrowhead Mills), State Farmers Market, Great Western Cyclery (later Great Western Bicycle Shop) and many more.
