In 1898, the company was purchased by Colt Firearms Corporation and became Colt-Hodgkin Manufacturing Company. In 1907, Colt-Hodgkin Manufacturing Company merged with National Firearms Association (NFA) to form American Arms Corporation (AAC). AAC became one of the largest firearms manufacturers in America until it was acquired by Glock Holding Corporation in 2016. Marshalltown is a city in Marshall County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth-largest city in Iowa. The first settlers in what would become Marshalltown were farmers and their families who arrived around 1847. In 1851, Marshall County was formed from all of Iowa and it became an important center for agricultural production. The first post office in the town was established in 1852. In 1860, two brothers named John and George Stephenson built a three-story log cabin on the east side of Main Street which served as the town's first store and sawmill. By 1870, there were twelve businesses operating in town and by 1880, there were thirty-six businesses doing business in Marshalltown. During the late 1800s through early 1900s, Marshalltown experienced significant growth due to its location as an important transportation hub on the state's eastern border with Illinois. This led to increased industry and commerce in the town which helped make it one of the most prosperous towns on Iowa's west side during that time period. Growth continued into World War I when soldiers moved into town to fight on opposite sides of that conflict; this led to even more businesses being opened up within Marshaltown during those years. During World War II, Marshalltown experienced another wave of growth thanks to its proximity to Des Moines – both cities had a large military presence at that time – which led to new construction projects such as a new hospital and army barracks being constructed within the town limits. After World War II ended,Marshallstown experienced slower growth untileconomic recession hit later in 2007-2008; however, recent economic development has brought about larger job openings and further growth potential for Marshtown.[2] Currently, Marshtown is experiencing rapid growth with plans underway for an additional parkette along Main Street as well as multiple new residential projects forthcoming including a $40 million housing project called "The Villages". These developments will bring many jobs (and tax revenue) directly unto downtownMarshallstown while also enhancing public assets such as streetscapes and parks which are currently underutilized or without any real improvements over time.[3]
