The Keokuk, Iowa Gun Target Club meets on the first Saturday of each month to shoot target practice. The club was founded in 1912 and has been meeting at the same site ever since. The club is open to anyone who wants to join and shoots any type of rifle or shotgun. The Keokuk Gun Target Club is one of the oldest gun targets clubs in Iowa. It started out as a way for men to get together and shoot some targets. Over time, theyve added other types oftarget such as pistols, bows and arrows, shotguns, and rifles. The club offers a variety of programs including shooting clinics, member meetings, social events, and tournaments. One of the most popular programs at the club is their annual tournament which pits members against each other in various categories such as shot putters/pistols (Gulf War Veterans vs NRA), archers (Iowa vs National Archery Association), riflemen (Ulysses S Grant vs Tecumseh Smith), handgunners (Sterling Silver bullets vs Centerfire ammunition),and more! The tournament Tournament typically runs from late May through early June and features many different target types as well as prizes for the winners.

The most common type of target is the silhouette target. This target consists of a short sheet of paper or plastic that is cut into various shapes such as a rectangle, square, or triangle. The first gun target in Keokuk was a cannon. The first known shot from a firearm was fired on July 2, 1846 by Captain John S. Griggs of the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War at a fort called San Jacinto in what is now downtown Keokuk. The fort served as a training ground for troops and artillerymen before being surrendered to Mexico on April 9, 1847. The first shooting range in Keokuk was built near the old US Army barracks on Main Street in 1895 by Major General George Custer and Major General William Tecumseh Sherman as part of their campaign to open up Iowa Territory to settlement. A second range, located just east of downtown, opened in 1915 and became the city's primary shooting range until it closed in 1985 due to concerns over lead exposure from ammunition manufacturing plants outside of town. In 1949, local businessman Homer Pyle donated land adjacent to his home on Fourth Street for use as an outdoor rifle range which would become one of the most popular targets around town with people across Iowa and Nebraska taking advantage of its free access until it closed in 1990 due to high lead levels from ammunition manufacturing plants outside of town. Keokuk is a city in Douglas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 12,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Douglas County. The first white people to settled in what is now Keokuk were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1854. They named their community "New Jerusalem." The town was platted in 1868 by Wm. H. Pyle and others under the name of Zion Hill. A post office was established at Zion Hill in 1870, and the settlement grew rapidly due to its access to water resources and its location near the then-new Burlington Railroad line which connected Keokuk with Chicago and other eastern markets. In 1888, a railroad station was erected on Main Street east of town; this became known as "Train Station Square" after Amtrak's Train Station Square located across from Union Pacific Railroad tracks just north of downtown Keokuk today. By 1920, Keokuk had grown so large that it needed its own airport and developed an airfield adjacent to it on Long Beach Boulevard southeast of town which served as both an airport and military base during World War II until being decommissioned in 1945 following the end of hostilities in Europe. In 1957, Keokuk joined with Muscatine (then called Sioux City) to form Muscatine-Keokuk metropolitan area; though there were no effectual changes until 1981 when both cities consolidated their local governments into one structure under the name of "Keokuk-Muscatine". As part of efforts by the state legislature to improve economic opportunities for rural counties throughout Iowa, KMA underwent several revisions culminating with its final designation as a business park by Governor Terry Branstad on July 1st, 2013 . As more businesses moved into KMA from surrounding rural areas over time various features were added such as: off-street parking spaces available for businesses; electrician services available for businesses; increased access to public transportation including Fidelity Bank Arena which opened up within minutes of opening providing easy downtown access for residents or visitors regardless thereof; job training programs offered through Des Moines Area Chamber Commerce - helping talented individuals find new career opportunities while still living close enough home that they can participate fully in local life keokaikurtd@gmail.com

The development of airguns and pellet guns allowed shooters to take aim from a distance and fire projectiles at various distances with much more accuracy than when rifles were used.
Keokuk was founded in 1854 by James and Margaret Buhl. The town became a major center for grain production during the 1800s and early 1900s. As the population of Keokuk grew, so did its economy. In 1925, Keokuk annexed the neighboring city of Ames. This led to an increase in trade between Keokuk and Ames as well as an increase in industry within the town. Today, Keokuk is a vibrant community with strong cultural traditions and a rich history.
On Keokuk, Iowa there are a number of historical markers and sites that commemorate the various events and people who have participated in the town's history. The most prominent marker is the Old Fort Keokuk National Historic Site, which was built in 1851 to serve as a trading post between the United States and Great Britain. The fort served as an important point of contact for traders travelling through the area, and it also played an important role in helping to defend against Indian attacks. Other notable markers include The Methodist Episcopal Church on High Street, which was built in 1871; The Union Pacific Railroad Depot on State Street, which was built in 1896; and First Presbyterian Church on Cedar Street, which was built in 1892.
