In 1892, Keokuk became a full member of the United States Congress and voted to adopt a Constitution that included provisions for universal suffrage for citizens over 21 years old. This decision helped makeKeokuk one of America’s most economically prosperous cities during this time period. Beginning in 1935, Keokuk began seeing an increase in firearm sales as residents looked to protect themselves from crime at night or during emergencies such as earthquakes or hurricanes. As such, many companies stopped making their products altogether around this time frame because they could not keep up with customer demand. The Keokuk Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1918. The club was first known as the "Keokuk Rifles and Pistol Club." In 1919, the club changed its name to the "Keokuk Rifle and Pistol Association." The association became a nonprofit organization in 1920. In 1923, the association changed its name again to the "Keokuk Rifle and Pistol Club Foundation." In 1931, the foundation changed its name to the "Keokuk Rifle and Pistol Association Incorporated." In 1937, the NRA purchased land adjacent to First Congregational United Church of Christ on County Road 6 in Keokuk from John S. Aspinwall for $1,000.

The community was platted in 1871, and named for Colonel James Keokuk, who had served as a member of the 1st Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. In recent years, however, Kiowa Hills Woods vista development has begun to fill up much of downtown Kaohsiung (the original town site), resulting in some traffic congestion on Market Street near KFC/Burger King restaurants & other popular tourist spots; this has led to calls for more thoroughfare designation/planning around such developments as new shopping malls or another park within walking distance for ease of access by everyone interested in cultural attractions within close geographic proximity without having to wait long periods for cars (& parking) availability outside commercial areas

The town of Keokuk was founded in 1848 by railroad men who were looking for a new location to build the railway. The town grew quickly, and in 1868 it became the county seat of Keokuk County. In 1906, Keokuk was chosen as the site for the Iowa State Fair, which is still held there today.
