Johnston is a small town in Iowa, United States. It was founded in 1847 by Colonel John A. Johnston, who was surveyor general for the Territory of Iowa. The town was named after Johnston's father, George Washington Johnston. In 1907, the townsite of Johnston changed hands three times and its name again due to this process; it finally reverted to its original name in 1912 when it became part of the city of Des Moines. The first settler in what is now Johnston was Captain James Weir, who arrived on July 20, 1847. Headed by General Lew Wallace and his men from Missouri Valley Cavalry Regiment #2 under the command of Major General James Kappenberger and Lieutenant Colonel David Sibley Ally Bros., Weir moved into present-day Johnston on October 1st that year. Captain Weir's detachment consisted of twelve wagons and five horses with a total value of $1,600 cash and eight rifles worth $24 each according to transaction records kept at the time by Polk County Recorder James Fenton (later Polk County auditor). At least one settler also came down with measles while at their new location and died as a result; he has yet to be positively identified however his death has been reported as occurring on October 1st only once in all those years recorded thus far! In early 1848 Captain Weir’s party prospected for gold near present day Cedar Rapids but found no traces of gold or other minerals so returned home late that night on November 2nd having failed to find anything worth bothering about! However two days later they located an immense underground cavern system consisting of over twenty feet deep containing “a million dollars” worth estimated struck gold coins which Captains Weir immediately stored away for future inspection! Unfortunately within weeks another party led by Lieutenant William Burt discovered more valuable deposits along both sides (north) River Sioux where they called their discovery “The Gusher” – this discovery marked not just the start but also an increase in available land around Des Moines making way for settlements like Johnston! It wasn't until early 1850 when General Kansas Warrick granted township form based on lot size principles that much progress could actually be made towards developing this area as lots began becoming available starting at $5 per acre! This allowed farmers larger than 50 acres to purchase plots up to 640 acres which would become known as "valleys". By January 9th 1850 there were already seventy four families living here including thirty six children aged 8 or younger!] The first schoolhouse opened its doors on February 12th 1850 serving grades one through twelve with Mrs. Clements teaching reading/math & writing! Classes continued every morning until September 15th 1870 when Mrs. Clements retired after fourteen years teaching hereabouts!] The first post office opened its doors March 3rd 1851 serving residents from Johnsonville eastward] On May 14th 1861 Rev John Hodge reached Des Moines via wagon train following his journey west during American Civil War.] On May 10th 1865 Union forces burned all buildings in downtown Des Moines%] Post Office closed due lack thereof letters] After American Civil War most residents either emigrated or left\ Today many descendants still live here

All these devices allow users to see images or text at various distances while keeping track of their target movement through live tracking technology

However, during the late 1970s and 1980s there began to be efforts to revive Johnston as an agricultural center with new investments being made in irrigation systems, farmland restoration and support for local farmers markets. Today, Johnston is known for its wide variety of antique shops, cultural events (such as summer movie screenings) and unique walkable streets that are popular among locals and visitors alike.
