Johnston, Iowa was the birthplace of one of the first firearms triggers in the United States. It is also home to the Johnston Gun Trigger Museum which preserves and displays firearms triggers from around the world. The museum is open to the public from 9am to 4pm Monday through Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sundays. The Johnston Gun Trigger Museum was founded in 1978 by Rick Johnston and his wife, Anita. Rick was a gunsmith who worked in Johnston for over 30 years before moving to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania in 1984. He had been interested in trigger history since he first saw a replicatrigger at an antique show in 1974. The trigger museum is located within a former mill that has been restored and turned into a museum complex with exhibits on guns and trigger technology from around the world. One of the most important factors behind this type of firearm trigger development is cross-breeding between dogs and cats, as these animals possess unique physical characteristics that allow them to fire some types of firearms accurately while other firearms cannot be fired using traditional methods such as pull or push mechanisms. Johnston is a town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. Johnston was founded in 1857 by General James Johnston and his family. The town was named for General Johnston because he had been instrumental in its growth. During World War I, Johnston produced munitions for the US military including artillery shells, machine guns and trench mortars. After World War II ended, most manufacturing left Johnston but some businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., still remain today including an online store that sells items related to textiles and clothing called "Sears Asia". The townsite at which Johnston stands has been altered several times over its history: first it was located on what is now Pella Road; then it lay within what is now business park Northwest; finally it occupied what are now east-central streets between North First Street (now Business Park Northwest) and North Third Street (now home to Johnstown Elementary School). In 2000-2001, much controversy surrounded an attempt by developer Bob Rankin to build a shopping mall adjacent to downtown Johnston – with plans for upwards of 1 million square feet (1000 m2) of retail space – without consent from either local resident or property owner alike. Rankin's plan met stiff resistance from both residents who valued their homes near downtown for access to education, commerce and other amenities while also being worried about traffic concerns due to planned development next door; as well as rankin himself who stated that he only wanted one grocery store per neighborhood not multiple stores like those proposed by others at that time - all without regard for any community input or approval process whatsoever! Ultimately Rankin abandoned his project after negative feedback from locals who felt they were taken advantage of duringConstruction Week − leaving many disappointed once again around town center where little has evolved since then aside from increased parking requirements across every block bordering city limits!

The city enjoyed an boom period during the late 1800s because of its strategic location and easy access to resources such as cotton, water, and lumber. However, Johnston went through several cycles of economic decline from the mid-19th century until World War II destroyed much of its business activity. Today, Johnston is primarily known for its historical significance as the home of Ulysses S. Grant's first wife Julia Ewing Grant and their two children – Grant Sr., who served as president of Illinois; and Julia Grants Bruce, who married Harry Truman in 1948.
