Johnston, IA is a small town in Johnson County with a population of just over 3,000. It's home to the Iowa State Penitentiary and the Johnston Armory, both of which are used as prisons and shooting ranges respectively. The Johnston Armory has been in business since 1892 and was one of the first gun shops in America. It also happens to be one of the few remaining armories that still sells firearms. The town quickly grew thanks to its location; trade goods arrived here regularly from nearby towns such as Cedar Rapids and Ames through stagescoops operated by local farmers or wagon trains covered in dust as they made their way upriver to Council Bluffs along the way (the first stagecoach left Cedar Rapids at 5:00 PM on July 25th, 1884).
