Johnston, Iowa is known as the "Gun Mecca of the Midwest" because of its rich history with firearms. The city was founded in 1853 by John Johnston and his brother, James Johnston. It served as the capital of Iowa during the early days of statehood and is now a popular tourist destination for visitors to see the many historic buildings and attractions. A group of protesters led by James Wirtz crossed into Iowa from Missouri to demand that Congress recognize United States citizenship for all citizens regardless of race or color. In response to this march, a large number of mounted Cavalry units responded and escorted the protestors back across state lines. This event is considered to be one of the most dramatic moments in American history. Johnston is a small town in Iowa, located about 20 miles northwest of Des Moines. The population was 5,812 at the 2000 census. Johnston is home to the Johnston Community College and the Johnston County Courthouse. The name "Johnston" was given to the community by General James A. Johnston, who fought in the Mexican-American War and was brevetted major general after that campaign. The town first appeared on US maps as part of Indian Territory in 1836. It became a full-time incorporated settlement only in 1858 when it was granted township status. At that time, it had a population of just over 100 people. The town's growth came from its location on the edge of what was then known as “the Great Sioux Nation” and from its position as one of three county seats for Polk County, which included much of north central Iowa. In 1920, Johnston became part of new Des Moines metropolitan area and has continued to grow since then; however, its rapid growth has not always been consonant with the needs or desires of the local citizens or school board members. In recent years there have been numerous attempts by residents to get their voice heard through ballot initiatives or referenda – some successful while others failed – but all have met with hostile resistance from city employees, who continue to control much of municipal decision making within the community boundaries. There are several reasons why Johnston may be struggling so acutely these days: (1) lack of funding for basic government services; (2) failure by city leaders to invest in marketing and public relations campaigns designed to improve image; (3) difficulty attracting high-quality businesses due tolimited available taxable property space; (4) lingering effects from World War II bombings that destroyed many homes and businesses; and finally (5) waning interest among young adults in staying in town after graduation or moving away for any numberof reasons such as job opportunities or family stability outside IA

Shooting competition helmets had also begun being made in response to fears that bullets might enter through small opening at the back of the helmet causing serious injury or even death (a concern which was later quashed thanks to research done into projectile design). Mallet - this particular type of capped revolver shot tests showed that rounds fired from these guns left no marks on paper targets after passage through mailbags filled with cotton batting

Johnston, Iowa is a small town in Douglas County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,858 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area. The first settler in Johnston was James Grimes and his family who arrived on July 1, 1847. They were among the first people to arrive in what would become Johnston County. Grimes owned a farm that he farmed until his death on October 11, 1885. Grimes' son John married Sarah Alderney and they had six children: James (1849-1927), William (1851-1937), Mary (1853-1945), Anna (1855-1946), and Everett W. Grimes (1857-1926). In 1893, a post office called "Johnston" was established in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant's visit to that location two years earlier. The community grew quickly due to its proximity to Cedar Rapids and its easy access to transportation by wagon or train. By 1911, Johnston had a population of 599 residents and it began to grow rapidly again due to the arrival of new settlers from southern Illinois and Michigan with their new churches and schools. In 1913, an all female school open for grades five through twelve was founded in the town by Mrs Geo Ehrlich which soon became known as "the old First Methodist School". By 1925, there were 2railroad stations within one mile of Johnston - both being used by local farmers for goods transported eastward across Douglas County on various railroads including the Burlington Railroad which passed through town several times during its history; as well as Northern Pacific Railway which also passed through on their way from Omaha City into central Iowa; this made Johnston one of the most important towns along these routes with its close geographic relationship with both entities having an impact on the growth and development of this small community over time
