The development of photography changed all this in 1876 when Alfred Russel Wallace developed the first photoelectric microscope! With this device, he was able to examine microscopically tiny specimens without having them damaged by light waves from other sources such as sunlight! This instrument allowed himto develop his theory about evolution which later helped him win the Nobel Prize in 1903 for this same work! However, until relatively recent times Spotting Scopes have been limited primarily to astronomical research applications where they are used for observing faint galaxies or stars at very high resolutions (up to 2 million pixels).
