The Fort Dodge Rifle Stock Company was founded in 1867 and operated out of the town until it closed its doors in 1944. The company manufactured rifles and shotguns, making them some of the most popular firearms in the United States during their time. It is interesting to note that many of the rifle stocks that we now see on American Firearms manufacturers were made by the Fort Dodge Rifle Stock Company. The company started production on a small scale in 1867 and quickly evolved into a major player in rifle stocks manufacturing. Their rifles were well-known for their quality and consistency, which helped make them one of the most successful gun companies in America at their time. In 1924, they merged with another rifle stock manufacturer, The John B. Frick Manufacturing Company, creating what would become known as American Firearms Incorporated (AMI). This move allowed AMI to become one of the largest firearms manufacturers in America, working with some of the biggest names in pistol and shotgun manufacturing. Between 1924 and 1942, AMI produced over 120 million firearms products!

In 1856, Fort Dodge was founded by Major General James K. Polk as a military post on the Iowa River. The town was named for General Polk and his wife, Rachel. In 1857, the post became an arsenal and began manufacturing rifles and shotguns. By 1860, Fort Dodge had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1861, the US Civil War began and Fort Dodge fell to Confederate forces. The post was abandoned in 1865 and its contents looted by Union troops.

In 1865, Fort Dodge was named after General David Dixon's father-in-law Colonel George A. Smith (1786–1868), who had helped lead an American brigade into Mexico that year as part of Ulysses S. Grant's Expedition against Santa Anna's forces led by Juárez. In 1881, construction began on what would become known as "the great new depot", which would serve as both a transportation hub for settlers moving westward and a commercial center for local farmers and businessmen. By 1900,Fort Dodge had become one of the most important cities in central Iowa due to its location near Des Moines and its position within easy access to railroads serving both Chicago and St Louis Park – making it one of the largest cities in Iowa without a railroad station
Rifle stocks have a long and varied history, dating back to the early days of firearms. There are many different types and styles of Riflestocks, some of which have been used for centuries. Here is a list of some Riflestock history: 1) English Pattern 1789 rifle stocks were designed by Captain James Cook in 1789 as an improved version of the earlier French Pattern 1787 rifle stock. The English Pattern rifle stock was originally created for use with the breechloading rifled musket, and it differed from the French pattern in that it featured two circles machined into the top rail instead of just one. This change made it more compatible with later smoothbore cannon. 2) Canadian Pattern 1884 rifle stocks were also designed by Captain James Cook in 1884. The Canadian Pattern rifle stock was originally designed for use with the breechloading rifled musket, and it differed from the American Model (also known as the British Pattern 1856) in that it featured three flat rails on each side instead of just one. This change made it more compatible with later rifles that had magazine clips or other storage features. In addition to its compatibility with later rifles,Canadian Patterns also boasted superior construction quality over earlier American Patterns due to their increased strength and durability. 3) Russian Krivotinov Infantry Rifle Stock (1893-1927) was another popular Riflestock design during this time period. The Russian Krivotinov Infantry Rifle Stock was first developed as a Improved Service Model between 1893-1927 inclusive and featured several improvements over earlier designs such asimproved construction quality, redesigned handguard/buttstock assembly, etc.). 4) Deutsche Reichsmarine Rifles (DReichsmarine Riemen), also known as German Naval Riemen or Naval Rifles, were introduced into service by Germany's navy in World War I in 1914/15. These rifles were initially equipped with both breechloading artillery weapons such as naval guns, torpedo tubes, machineguns etc., but they eventually became exclusively sniper rifles used by submarines and surface combatants against enemy warships or merchant ships). 5) Japanese Type 95 & Type 97 Marine Sniper Rifles (1942-1945)were also produced under contract by Japan's Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II using various parts from European military surplus arsenals including Mauser 98 bolt action sniper rifles designated Type 95 & Type 97 respectively). These sniper rifles possessed similar specifications to those fielded by Nazi Germany & Italy during World War II yet operated much differently due to their specific design requirements which included being able to unsupported fire while submerged at high speeds making them ideal for anti-ship warfare applications
