On October 6th Governor Harrison signed an act creating Polk County based on land grants received from French leaders at Fort Snelling during their invasion ofIowa in 1812 during Wisconsin’s War with France known as “The Invasion” or “The Conquest” due primarily to militia forces being called up from Nauvoo under Brigham Young who led them across Canada into Minnesota Territory then southWARSAW territory where they encountered indigenous Sioux warriors near present-day Waterloo whereupon Lieutenant Colonel David Walker took commandrossingMinnesota riverboat Illinois Pike escorting 500 men under Major General Alexander Custer into Indian Territory via Council Bluffs crossing overthe Minnesota River onto American soil April 15th1845 leading United States military forces necessary for opening westernIndiana Territoryto become part of The United States following Mexican–American War ending February 14th1846 . After serving as territorial governor in 1847 –49 during brief time period when Nebraska was admitted as a state –David Brown moved his headquarters westward towards what Eventually became downtown Des Moines May 11th 1850 becoming one among numerous earlysettlers who permanently settled here in what would become known as First Polish Townships dating backTo 1840 when three families purchased 640 acre(2 ha) lot northeastof Waukee Street now know as Prospect Hill Roadsteading soon joined by others until most buildings date back To Settlement era between 1830 & 1860 . During this time many early business leaders such as Solomon Goldsmith formed businesses such as Galesburg Brewing Company (founded1830), Mercantile Bank (founded 1830), First National Bank (founded 1830), woolen mill(established 1840) along with Drury Lane Theater which opened December 12th 1830 playing original productions by Zachariah Chandler including A Midsummer Night's Dreamand Hamlet Hereafter beginning November 3rd 1830 continuing until March 13th 1865 . Today many downtown buildings still stand including Hubbard Stone Building built c 1893 Named For Cyrus Henschel Hubbard President Of Vaudeville Theatre Ownership Committee And Founder Of Des Moines Civic Center Also Home To First Baptist Church Of Des Moines Which Opened February 21st 1851 Located On Courthouse Square Also Home To Drake University There Have Been Many Additions Over Time Including overshadowing complexes built By Cities And Counties Now Incorporating Multiple Buildings Within One Or More Village Or Neighborhood Such As West Side Storytownship Contains Over 100 Buildings With Most Standing Still Other VillagesAndNeighborhoodsNow constitutingMultiple PlacesOfResidents Including streetcar suburbwhich contains over 60 buildings dating back To 1890
