John Wessels started a grocery store here in 1872 which became one of the most successful Grocery stores ever opened up in America Davenport's downtown area features beautiful architecture from many different periods including Federal style, Italianate styles, Queen Anne styles and more Today's downtown area has several shops/cafés/diner options as well as a large park that includes a basketball court, children's play zone and tennis courts
