Morgan had been looking for a new home since his departure from Baltimore two years earlier and found it in this small town on Iowa's eastern border with Illinois due to some unusual factors: The area was flat enough to build a bank on but has enough hills that it would be difficult for robbers to rob; there were no rivers between Davenport and Burlington so shipping could be stopped without risk; railroad lines ran through both towns which made transporting goods inland much easier than it would have been if they had run downriver; finally, many people hereabouts had ties to Illinois or Wisconsin which made transportation easy during prohibition." First National Bank eventually became part of Wells Fargo & Co., one of America's largest commercial banks. Today, First National Bank occupies an entire building on Main Street within sight of Iowa State University (ISU).
