One of the earliest commercial Airgun companies was Browning & Co., which began manufacturing firearms in 1906 under the name Browning Automatic Rifle Company (BAR). BAR became one of America’s leading firearm manufacturers during World War I due to its advanced design features including blowback action and armoured barrel protection. The company continued production throughout World War II until it merged with Winchester Ordnance Company in 1945 to form Winchester Corporation (Winchester Repeating Arms Inc.). During World War II, Winchester Corporation manufactured over 200 different types of ammunition including artillery rounds used by Allied forces in the war effort; sniper rounds designed for stalking game animals;and general purpose rounds used by both military and police personnel across America. In 1948, Winchester Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Arms Company Incorporated (RAC). RAC continues as one of Remington Arms Company’s primary divisions today responsible for manufacturing all types of shotgun ammunition as well as many other Firearms products such as shotguns chokes and stocks
