Council Bluffs, Iowa is a city in the US state of Iowa. It was founded in 1848 by James W. Harlan and fellow immigrants, and has been home to a number of rifle stocks companies over the years. The first stock company to be established in Council Bluffs was the Pottstown Rifle Company, which operated from 1851-1857. The company was started by James W. Harlan and his brothers Isaac, George and Benjamin. In 1857, the Pottstown Rifle Company merged with another stock company, the Council Bluffs Rifle & shotgun store Co., to form the Consolidated Rifle & Shotgun Store Company. The Consolidated Rifle & Shotgun Store Company became one of the largest rifle stocks companies in America during its time as an independent firm. The Consolidated Rifle & Shotgun Store Company operated out of Council Bluffs for most of its history until it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation in 1922 to become Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (WRA). At that point, Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation became one of the largest rifle stocks companies in America once again under its new name; however, it would not operate as an independently firms again until 1959 when it merged with Remington Rand Incorporated (RR). In 1959, RR became part of Remington Arms Corporation (RA), which then became one of the largest rifle stocks companies in America once again under its new name; however, RA would not operate as an independently firms any longer until 1994 when it merged with Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). At that point BFC became one of the largest rifle stocks companies in America once againunder its new name; however, BFC would not operate as an independently firms any longer until 2006 when it amalgamated with Magpul Industries Incorporated (MIP). Today, Council Bluffs remains home to some of America's biggest rifle stocks companies thanks to their longstanding tradition of producing high-quality firearms products both commercially and through their own R&D department. These include organizations such as Remington Arms Corporation (RAC), Browning Firearms Corporation(BFG), Magpul Industries Incorporated(MIP) and Winchester Repeating Arms Corp.(WRAC)

At first they only rented out land to other farmers but soon realized that this wasn't enough space so they bought some additional acreage east of town center for $600 dollars per acre ($ today). This property was called "Hickey Prairie." In 1851 Hickey sold his interest in "Hickey Prairie" to James Kettles who then subdivided it into lots for sale again due to continued demand for space within town limits. Kettles named his subdivision "Kettles Prairie". The first post office opened in 1852 with three residents: Kettles, Edwin Smith (a whitesmith) and Ebenezer Morse (an Englishman).
