Council Bluffs, Iowa is home to the oldest gun lock company in the United States. The first guns locks were created by John Fitch in 1846. The company was founded as a hardware store and continued to produce guns locks until it merged with another hardware store in 1894. In 1894, the company merged with another hardware store, also located in Council Bluffs. At this time, John Fitch Gun Lock Company became part of the Armoury Hardware Corporation. If this happens, then instead of providing an unlock button on top like with regular guns, these devices will provide sound alerts or flashing lights indicative that access has been denied (usually for 10 seconds). Once again this type of system requires expertise in order for somebody else not currently possessed by such an individual(s) due entrance into another area would result effectively immediately denying any further access until such time as authorities arrive etc.).
