Coralville, Iowa is a town in and the county seat of Coralville County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1855 by Mormon pioneers as a farming community on the banks of the Des Moines River. The original name for Coralville was "Mormon Settlement." Rifle stocks history in Coralville started with early settlers who were looking to purchase rifles for their herds of livestock. At first these people purchased rifles from local Indian traders. In 1857, when Sherman's Expedition entered Iowa Territory and began destroying Sioux tribal lands, some pioneer men decided to arm themselves and protect their property. They procured rifle stocks from local farmers and bought shotguns from merchants in Council Bluffs. As war came closer, more settlers bought rifles to defend themselves and their families. By 1860 many businesses had been established around the town of Coralville including a grocery store, millinery shop, blacksmith shop, wagon factory and gunsmiths' workshop that would produce firearms for settlers throughout Iowa under contract with local manufacturers. The success of rifle stocks production led to other businesses within the town such as hardware stores becoming popular among settlers because they could provide goods such as nails and screws needed for firearms manufacturing along with ammunition supplies. By 1865 there were ten businesses operating in Coralville with a combined sales volume of $2 million dollars! Rifle stocks production continued until about 1885 when it all stopped due to increased competition from other types of products available on the market at that time.

Coralville, Iowa City and its surrounding towns were founded in 1868 when a group of investors organized the Coralville Railroad. The town was founded on the site of what is now the University of Iowa's Coralville Campus. The town's first store was built on Depot Street in 1890. In 1902, a post office was established in Coralville. In 1916, the Coralville (Iowa) High School opened and served as the community's primary educational institution until it closed in 1978.In 1932, an airport was constructed at Coralville and has been used for both general aviation and commercial flights ever since.
Coralville, Iowa is a city in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,907 at the 2010 census. Coralville is the county seat of Muscatine County. It was founded in 1855 and named for Captain John Fenton Coral. The town namesakes of many other small towns in central Iowa were also given after captains or naval officers who had played important roles during the American Revolution or during World War I. These town namesake honored men such as Samuel Phelps (1822-1910), Commodore James Pohlman (1873-1958), and Admiral Chester Wainwright (1908-1988). Coralville was founded on November 8, 1855 by Captains John Fenton Coral and Lewis Hilliard. At first it consisted of just two homes, one on Crystal Lake and one on Pershing Road. Within four years the town had opened a schoolhouse and erected a dam to provide water for irrigation purposes. In 1860 another home was built on State Street near where US Highway 20 now stands; this became the nucleus of what would become Coralville’s commercial district today. In 1865 Captain Henry Welsh arrived with his family from Liverpool to take up residence in what would become Coralville; he began planting cotton here as well as developing other agricultural products. By 1870 coralivilians had organized themselves into a Methodist church which continued to serve them until 1939 when it merged with another Methodist church in Muscatine County to form First Methodist Church of Muscatine County Incorporated.. The first post office in Coralville was established on December 7, 1865; it was called “Fenton” because its sender was Captains John Fenton Coral and Lewis Hilliard. The post office served rural areas within both Muscatine and Polk Counties until 1888 when it became an urban post office serving all of central Iowa under the name “Coralville” with responsibility for alluvial plains within muscatine county only including Clear Lake/Crystal Lake township until 1907 when that area too became part of Polk County . In 1917 Postmaster General Homer Hoad said "I cannot think why we should continue accepting letters addressed to 'Coralvil' when our own citizens are doing better than they have ever done beforemailing their mail through cities like Des Moines." So effective were these protests that by 1918 local officials decided to change the name back to “Muscatine” after residents there desired that change their postal service be more akin to their nearby city counterparts . On July 1, 1947 President Harry S Truman issued Executive Order 9405 proclaiming June 4th Memorial Day throughout America . This order recognized local governments who observe this holiday independently from federal government control while also honoring those who have fought for democracy worldwide over past year
