Coralville, Iowa is a small town located in Fulton County, Iowa. The population was 1,546 at the 2010 census. The center of Coralville is home to the Coralville Public Library and the Coralville Baptist Church. The village has a small grocery store and two restaurants. The first settlers in Coralville were pioneers who moved from Missouri in 1847. A post office was established in Coralville on December 12, 1851, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on October 3, 1959. In 1892, the town received its own water system when local farmers donated land to build a pipeline to carry water from nearby Muscatine River. Coralville got its name from coral trees that grew along the banks of the Muscatine River. Coralville, IA is a town in Story County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1851 as a post office and saw growth from its early days as an agricultural center to a full-service city by the turn of the 21st century. Today Coralville is known for its vibrant arts scene and diverse landscape which includes rolling hills and woodlands. The town began as a small settlement on the banks of the Cedar River, about two miles east of present-day Coralville. For several years (1851-1854), it functioned as an offshoot of Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1855, John A. Carver founded what would later become Coralville as a station on the Burlington Railroad. The first post office in Coralville was opened in October of that year. By 1860, it had grown to include a population of 245 residents and had established itself as an important commercial center within Story County. The city's rapid growth continued through the late 19th century; during this time, Coralville became known for its many fine hotels and resorts which attracted thousands of visitors each year to its attractions such asthe Parkman Museum & Palace (now part of UIUC), Crystal Springs Resort (now part of UIUC), Playland Park amusement park, Lake Merritt (now part of UIUC) and others . Even during World War I when much smaller towns were struggling economically due to increased mill production in neighboring states or countries,[1] Coralville managed to remain largely unaffected by hostilities taking place nearby; instead it grew steadily with new businesses opening up including several restaurants and stores along with more homes being built . In 1921, Coralville incorporated as a city under Laws No. 2236 and No 2247 which provided for various municipal services such as police officer election coverage etcetera while also authorizing annexation by other towns within Story County should they desire such action . In 1951 following passage by the Iowa General Assembly Chapter 3752 that repealed Laws No 2236/2247 ,[2] Coralvillians voted 3-0 in favor thereof[3] making their city official . Growth continued throughout much into the 1960s before finally slowing around 1970 – coinciding with significant changes occurring nationally including suburbanization across large cities leading eventually to declines in population throughout most major metropolitan areas ; however despite this overall stagnation coralvilians have seen continual growth over ensuing decades averaging about 5% annually; this has included substantial renovation/updates to City Hall buildings since incorporation[4][5][6][7]
