This stimulated economic growth throughout the area and contributed to Coralville's continued prosperity into the 21st century; today it is one of only two communities remaining unchanged since its incorporation as a town in 1868 (the other being Cedar Rapids). One notable event that took place during this time period occurred when Drs Edmund Whitehead and George Sibley performed an operation on President Fillmore at Cedar Rapids General Hospital which relieved him from an illness which had been plaguing him for some time
