The first firearms in Coralville, Iowa were pistols. On December 12, 1851, the first firearm was registered in the town by W.B. Beardsley and S.H. Higginson. The pistol was a Smith & Wesson model of 1851 that was made in about 1865 when the company joined Colt’s manufacturing line. A revolver was also registered on this date with George Steele of Coralville. This handgun is currently stored at the Iowa State Historical Society in Ames, Iowa and is on display as part of their exhibit on early Iowa gun history
