This company manufactured shotguns and pistols as well as barrels for firearms manufacturers around the country including Smith & Wesson and Colt Firearms Corporation. The Simmons Manufacturing Company also exported their products to Cuba, Mexico City and other parts of Latin America. In 1886, two brothers named John Ladd and Harry Ladd founded the Johnson Arms Manufacturing Company in Coralville which manufactured handguns under license from American Arms Company of Philadelphia PA (now Remington). The Johnson Arms Manufacturing Company was successful enough that it moved to its own facility on Third Street in 1907 where it remains today! The Johnsons are considered father and son team behind this business success! Coralville is a town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County. The first settler in Coralville was Levi Coffin in 1854. He and his wife's brother, James Oberholtzer, started the town on a small farm near what is now Coralville High School. In 1865 the two brothers built a log cabin on their farm and named it "Coralville." They also started to raise chickens and pigs. In 1872 coralvillians bought of land from Josephine Hofmann for $1 per acre (2¢ per square foot). That same year they laid out a town grid with four blocks wide by twelve blocks long. They Added several more homes as people moved into the area and soon there were over 100 residents living in Coralville. The first post office opened in Coralville on November 3, 1872. The name of the post office was changed to "Coralville" on February 28, 1903 after statehood for Johnson County occurred that day under Nebraska Territory laws which applied only to this territory; however, because coralvillians had helped organize the town's first meeting seven months earlier they were given voting rights within Johnson County until March 15th when those rights went to Cedar Rapids due to its larger population size at that time. In 1899 steel mills closed down in Des Moines so much pollution resulted from blast furnaces used to make nails that killed rats (a problem then still extant) which spread throughout rural areas causing economic decline until be began effective control measures over rat populations by using traps baited with hens' eggs or containing apple sauce bait caused an almost immediate return to growth rates during that decade; this trend continued until control measures finally ceased operation around 1960 when agriculture became dominant once again among local economies throughout eastern Iowa thanks largely to cheap foreign supplies coming through Omaha lockups instead of being met with open arms from traditional agriculturalists who would have been able to provide better quality products at far lower prices
