Coralville, Iowa is a town in Crawford County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. The Town of Coralville began as a post office on February 14, 1875. It was named for the coral reefs near the town. The first settler in Coralville was John Aiken who built a log cabin on the banks of Big Cedar River in 1876. Aiken and his wife later had four children and started a farm there. In 1881, James White moved to Coralville from Wapello and started a grocery store which became one of the most popular businesses in town. By 1912, white settlers were farming around the corner from Coralville on land that now forms part of Mount Pleasant Township. In 1918, Mayor JB Moody organized an all-male chorus group called "The Knights" to provide music and entertainment downtown during summertime nights when people could not go to variety shows or dances because it was raining outside. This program continued until 1919 when it disbanded because men did not want to get their hair wet playing music outdoors in such hot weather conditions! This is also where we got our first name - The Knightsmen! After disbanding our chorus group we formed again (in memory of our former leader) as The Buccaneers but that too lasted only six months before disbanding again due to lack of interest! In 1924old Mrs Blythe Fenton donated land southwest of town limits for recreational purposes including an amateur golf course which has been used by locals ever since

It was named after coral reefs near Cuba on Lake Michigan. In 1902, Coralville became an incorporated city and its population grew to 5,000. In 1928, Coralville merged with nearby Dubuque to form a new municipality with a combined population of 12,500 people. Coralville has been home to many notable citizens over the years including Democrat Adlai Stevenson II as Mayor from 1960-1964 and Richard Mudgett who served as Governor of Iowa from 1979-1987
Coralville was founded in 1837 by John A. Woods and his wife, Phebe. The town was named for the Coral Sea, which at that time lay to the south of them. In 1840, Woods donated land to the city of Des Moines for a public square. The first store in Coralville was built on this square in 1845. In 1851, Coralville incorporated as a city and began to build a municipal building on State Street. This building is still standing today and is used as the municipal offices of Coralville. In 1862, Des Moines annexed Coralville into its city limits and renamed it Hope City.
