On February 14, 1912, it voted to annex what are now neighboring towns of West Liberty and Clearwater into Coralville. The annexation created a new city government with a mayor-council form of government and made Coralville the only city in Iowa without an elected school board or library system. On October 25, 2016, Coralville voters passed a referendum to become an open-air shopping mall known as "Coralvue" which will be located just north of I-80 exit 417 near Interstate 35W between Clearwater Road and State Route 622 (now US Highways 441/45). The mall's anchors are JCPenney, Sears Holdings Corporation and Macy's Inc..

Coralville is a town in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 511 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Des Moines metropolitan area. Coralville was founded in 1855 by brothers James and Charles Palmer. The Palmers built a log cabin on what is now the corner of Main and Wellesley Streets. They named their town after the coralreef near their homeport of Portsmouth, England. The town first grew around Morningside Cemetery which served as the town's main cemetery from 1857 to 1886. In 1895, Coralville became one of two towns in Polk County to have its own school district; the other being West Des Moines. In 1907, Coralville voters passed a referendum approving annexation by Ames City; however, this annexation did not take place until 1912 because of legal challenges from West Des Moines. In 1916, Coralville had its first post office- which was located at 100 North First Street- and also began to issue its own currency; however, it ceased operations in 1924 due to financial difficulties. In 1940, Coralville voters passed a referendum approving incorporation into the larger city of Ames; however, this incorporation did not take place until 1951 because of legal challenges from West Des Moines and Ames City respectively. After years of growth and progress throughout his three terms as Mayor (1949-1958), Harry Auerbach retired from office at age 70 in 1958 and left Coralville for good with an estimated population size of 620 residents when he vacated his seat to make way for new Mayor Frank Juhl who had been appointed during Auerbach's absence. Juhl quickly proved himself as one of America's most successful mayors with an economic turnaround that saw significant job growth across all sectors while continuing efforts towards cohesion within the community through various initiatives such as fund raising drives for charitable organizations or community service projects such as lawn care or building maintenance campaigns). When Juhl announced his retirement effective December 15th following eight years Serving as Mayor (2003-2009) many people were both surprised and disappointed given that he had long been considered one of Cedar Rapids' most popular mayors with a reputation for being willing to work hard but never hesitate to let others know how much he cared about them personally). However despite having only served two term(s) since taking office some feel that there may be more left untapped potential within him should he decide later in life to run for another term(s)). As we head into 2009 elections it will be interesting see if any new moves are made by either candidate pending decision on who will succeed him next
